Ricky Rudd- One Tough Customer

In the last year or two, I’ve really been getting into podcasts.

As a NASCAR fan, one of my favorite podcasts is the Dale Jr. Download.

In recent months, Dale Jr. has taken his show to another level by bringing on some fantastic guests.

Listening to these interviews has given me a whole new view on certain parts of NASCAR’s history. We hear it directly from the guest. Stories and perspectives we might have not ever heard without this podcast.

I really loved Dale Jr’s most recent episode with former NASCAR driver Ricky Rudd.

Rudd actually had a long ongoing rivalry with Jr’s father Dale Earnhardt. This interview was very transparent about that. I couldn’t believe how open Rudd was. He was really honest about how the rivalry started, and how it  got resolved.

From what I can see, Rudd has always been like that. Telling people how things are in a really honest way.

On top of that, he is probably one of the toughest drivers who ever raced. In the interview, Rudd talked about an intense crash he had in 1984.

The wreck happened right at the beginning of the season and it looked like Rudd might be out for the rest of it at the time.

But that wasn’t so. Rudd came back and raced a week later. He even taped his eyes open to keep racing because they were swollen shut at one point!

It’s so awesome to think about how many great story-lines have come through NASCAR, and that I’m discovering  new ones all of the time.

That’s why I’m so thankful for this podcast. I can’t wait to see what Dale Jr. does with it in the future!
