After seeing Top Gun for the first time back in high school, I started to wonder why there hadn’t been a sequel to it.
It just seemed like the perfect film to set up a series. Big action. A very likable main character. And a huge star.
Well in 2020, that thought will be no more. As Tom Cruise is returning to the role of Maverick for another film.

I absolutely loved the feel to this trailer. The film looks to be very well shot. The preview left me with 80’s nostalgia filled wonder.
Maverick is returning to the Top Gun training program, this time as an instructor. I have a feeling Maverick still doesn’t play by the rules though. It looks like he is someone who has grown older, but is still very young at heart.
Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm and Miles Teller have joined the cast. I love all of these actors, but Teller is the most intriguing to me as he will be playing Goose’s son!
Val Kilmer is another piece from the original film returning as Iceman! I love Kilmer, and I’m so excited to see him in a big role again.
Top Gun Maverick releases on June 26, 2020. A perfect time to view it as the 4th of July will be right around the corner!
With this and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, summer 2020 is going to be an amazing time for 80’s movie fans!
Maybe there was a reason a sequel to Top Gun took over 30 years to happen. Sometimes the best things come with a wait!
